We are learning about the Greek Myths. We heard the story of Icarus and Daedalus. We wanted to find out if the myth could be scientifically possible! Was there a different reason Icarus may have fallen from the sky?
We made our own wax and feather wings and placed them in the oven, the freezer and in water. We took them out after 10 minutes to observe the effects on the wax wings.
We found out that the higher you fly, the colder the atmosphere gets. Therefore, Icarus’ wings would have become brittle in the cold air and would have been likely to break before he got anywhere near to the sun! The myth is scientifically inaccurate!
