This week we have been thinking about our feelings and emotions for Mental Health Week and doing some ‘Rainbow Painting’ and ‘Cosmic Yoga’.
As part of the ‘Women in Science’ celebration the children have enjoyed learning about Ada Lovelace, Marie Curie and other important historical females. In provision, they have been exploring the science themed investigation station and looking at the planets and constellations on the light table. They have also enjoyed carrying out some experiments both indoors and outside.
In phonics, the focus has been on double letters and reading longer words, such as ‘sunset’. Maths has been active this week and has involved the children working in teams to find amounts around the room and attempt to write numerals.
As part of our ‘Long Ago’ topic, the children have enjoyed listening to the text, ‘Major Glad, Major Dizzy’ and responded to a letter that was sent by the characters. They explored the Learning Hub and began to identify features of non- fiction books. Later in the week, the children explored books with the theme of ‘royalty’ and thought carefully about what it means to be royal and how to identify a royal person.
When looking at traditional tales, the children identified clothes from the past and compared it to modern clothes today, some even designing their own.
One of the highlights of the week was racing the graphemes and reading/writing them.
Some of the pictures were taken by the children.
