Week Beginning 8.5.23

  • Another busy 4 day week for Reception. Continuing our ‘Animal Safari’ Project, the children enjoyed playing a ‘mixed up’ animal game. Whilst doing so, they created their own hybrid animals and enjoyed reading their new silly names. Alongside this, we shared the book ‘Hello Hello’ by Brendan Wenzel and explored the status of some of the animals featured (vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered) and the reasons for this. Finally, Reception enjoyed learning about habitats and how different animals communicate via the book, ‘Dancing Birds and Singing Apes’ by Smriti Prasadam- Halls. They particularly enjoyed creating their own bird-like dance moves outside with the peers.
  • In RE this week, the children made their own story maps of the Creation Story, in phonics, they have been continuing to read CVCC words and new tricky words and in Maths they have ben consolidating composition to 5 and ‘a bit’.
  • In provision, the children have continued to celebrate the King’s Coronation by collaging the King; exploring mixing colours by creating their own King silhouettes; using the pegs to create red, white and blue flag patterns and exploring London in the small world area.
  • Outside, the children have been role-playing as fire-fighters, using animals in play and much much more!
