We have had a great start to our new project ‘Big Wide World!’.
The children have enjoyed talking to their classmates about what they did in the half term holiday and then again later in the week when we enjoyed a ‘Circle Time’ and shared photos of where they had been on holiday or on a day trip. We found some of the places on a World map and on a map of the UK too!
We used our imagination to go on a journey and explored different parts of the school grounds as we travelled to our destination on the tricycles, scooters cars. Many of the children wished to go to the beach, which we did on a smaller scale as we hunted for seashells in the sand pit!
The children thought about what they would need to pack in a suitcase to go on holiday and practised their cutting and sticking skills.
We have had lots of fun with the different construction toys, designing and building different kinds of vehicles! The children have also enjoyed working together as a team building the train track and road.
Our new role play, ‘The Cat cafe’ has been very popular, where the children have loved looking after the cats and kittens and have enjoyed learning about different foods that come from around the World.
In Phonics we have continued with our ‘Little Wandle’ daily games and activities, focusing on our oral blending skills and listening for initial sounds in words. We have also continued to practise writing our names.
In Maths the children have continued with our daily counting games and have thought about new vocabulary to do with length, distance, routes, locations and positional language.
Other activities this week have included playing transport games, guess the vehicle and Kim’s game (spot the missing transport). We have discussed transport that goes on the land, in the sky and on water.
The children have enjoyed singing transport songs such as ‘The Wheels on the Bus’, ‘Row, Row, Row your Boat’, ‘Down at the Station’ and ‘A Sailor went to Sea, Sea, Sea’ and learned the tongue twister ‘She sells Seashells on the Seashore’.
We have had lots of fun practising our races for Sports Day too!
