Splash! (PM Nursery)

This week Nursery started a new mini project called ‘Splash!’ We began the week by thinking about the importance of water and watched a video showing all the different uses for water.

The children enjoyed helping Captain Party sort all his treasure into things that float and sink.

In PE we made the ‘sea’ ripple and then made big waves!

In Maths we learned about the language of capacity, (full, empty, half full), when we counted how many teacups it took to fill the teapot and then how many teaspoons it took to fill a cup. The children enjoyed making ‘cups’ of tea for eachother in the waterplay.

The children thought about the language of length, (short and long) when Mrs Lindsay told them the story about dog who lost his ball in the pond and his friends tried to help him but their sticks were too short, until duck found the longest stick!

The children have practised counting and number recognition when they counted some sea creatures.

Following on from exploring recycling from last week, the childen have enjoyed junk modelling and created some wonderful boats.

In Phonics the children continued with the daily ‘Little Wandle’ activities, practising their oral blending and phonemic awareness skills and learned the new sound ‘ng’ as in ring. We also thought about rhyming words in the story ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andreae.

The children have loved singing the songs, ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’, ‘A Sailor went to Sea, Sea, Sea’, ‘We all Live in a Yellow Submarine’ and a Pirate song!
