We used fabric pens this week, alongside our design sheets to make our own pirate flags.
This week, we learnt to read simple coordinates as part of our Land Ahoy topic. We gave a pesky pirate some instructions to find his way around a treasure island. On Thursday we placed our ‘x’ on a map to bury our treasure and played a ‘Battleships’ style game.
Year 2 have been learning about famous pirates. This week we learnt all about Anne Bonny, by asking her parrot some questions. 2S enjoyed writing questions on the table in the Learning Hub and deciding which would provide us with the best information. They then asked ‘Pancake’ the parrot them and were amazed by his replies.
Year 2 have enjoyed using concrete apparatus and creating human number lines when focusing on addition and subtraction over the past few weeks. Today we played detective and read word problems, deciding whether the question was asking you to + or -.
Year 2 went on a ‘word’ scavenger hunt last week. We enjoyed finding words and deciding if they were: adjectives, nouns or verbs.
This week we designed and made boats out of Plasticine. We thought carefully about the shape of our boats and had a competition to see which floated.
This week we learnt about different explorers. We then worked in teams to place them in chronological order.
Last week in maths we were challenged to make a given number in 5 different ways. We used equipment and wrote number sentences.
This morning we were learning to add two (sometimes three) numbers together. This was very much an active lesson and required us to move around to find a partner. We were able to choose which strategy to use, there was lots of practical equipment to help!
