On a chilly but sunny Friday afternoon, Year 3 and 4 were enjoying playing football. Both teams picked their team captains and played with great team spirit today as both teams battled it out on a frosty pitch! The games were fair but competitive and there were lots of skill on show. Year 3 had a great day at Ryton Pools learning all about the Stone Age. We did a range of activities including den building, exploring artefacts from the Stone Age such as a hand axe and an elephant`s tooth! We also made our own fire, roasted `mushrooms` and learnt how to light a fire using flint. The rangers told us
We have had a busy week in Year 3! Our writing has been based on Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. Year 3 had a great time visiting the Lunt Roman Fort as part of our Empires and Emperors topic. We learnt lots of interesting facts about the life of a Roman and had great fun pretending to be Roman soldiers for the day, which included lots of marching, exciting battle drills with our swords and shields and even defending ourselves
In our Maths lessons Year 3 have been focusing on the properties of 3-D shapes. We had great fun constructing our own 3-D shapes using wooden skewers and marshmallows! The children did a great job of making their shape and describing them according to the number of edges, vertices and faces.
Year 3 were invited along with Year 2 to go and watch a rock band perform songs through the decades from the 1940`s through to the present day. We were treated to cover versions of songs by Bob Marley, The Killers, and Harry Styles. The children (and staff!) had a great time singing and dancing along and really enjoyed listening
As part of out Light and Shadows project Year 3 have been set a challenge- to see whether cheaper brands of suncream are just as effective as the more expensive brands at protecting us from the sun. Year 3 have been investigating magnets as part of our Science work this term. We looked carefully at the different poles of the magnets and how the magnetic forces are created. We found out about magnetic attraction and repulsion and what happens to the magnets in each case. We also experimented with magnets of different shapes and sizes including horseshoe,
Year 3 have completed their ammonite Art project. We made our own printing blocks using polystyrene tiles and carved our design motifs into the tiles. We then added different coloured inks to each tile. We were very pleased with our final pieces!
The children have used various percussion instruments to play to accompany a piece of music. They had to keep to a rhythm and play their instrument at the right time and work together to create a collaborative piece. Well done Year 3!
