Over the half term holiday, the children chose from a list of homework activities. They wrote pirate jokes, wrote diaries of their trips to the coast but many of brought in treasure chests and ships which they had made. We celebrated harvest last week. Reverend Jon Taylor came into school to deliver a special harvest assembly. Thank you for all the food contributions … as you can see everyone was very generous!
We have been learning how to write noun phrases in English as a new way of describing things. In our first lesson, we listened to sounds of a stormy sea and looked at paintings to help us imagine that we were there! We collected adjectives and then Mrs Crust helped us use these words to describe parts of the boat.
In the first lesson we read the first part of The Pirate Cruncher story then drew a picture of what we though would happen next. In the next few lessons we collected story language which we might need and some other useful words. We though about whether our sentences were action or noticing sentences using the lenses from The write
We had so much fun on our trip to Coombe Abbey hunting for minibeasts in three different habitats: woodland, pond and wildflower meadow. The sun shone all day and we learned so much!
Over the last few weeks in English, we have been building up to writing our own story about George and the Dragon. The sentence types we have tried to include are similes, alliteration, dialogue, noticing, feelings and many more! Here we are working VERY hard independently and a few examples of our plans.
2C thoroughly enjoyed looking for minibeasts around the school grounds. The collected, identified and marked on an aerial view of the school grounds, where they found the creatures.
The children had to plan, design and build a fortress to protect the Three Little Pigs should they become attacked again by the Big Bad Wolf! Their fortress had a high curtain wall, a moat, drawbridge, lookout tower, dungeon and keep. They then worked in teams to produce their individual part and then it was assembled at the end to
2C had lots of fun using Kapla! They learned about different types of bridges and then everyone built their own in groups. We also challenged ourselves to build the tallest tower they could. Some groups thought very carefully about how to make their structure strong and stable.
Before Easter, we started to learn how to use apostrophes for contraction using Duplo blocks!
