Year 6 Forest Schools group has been learning to tie different knots to help them with building shelters. We used the reef knot to tie rope together and then used a loop knot to create ends to put pegs through. Teamwork was essential as we made use of all the natural logs and branches.

2S have enjoyed an amazing day dressing up and learning more about Pirates. We had a real pirate visitor come to tales us tales of the scurvy seas and even had us walking the plank! We draw what we could see through our telescope and even tried some piratey food.

We’ve been stepping into the smelly shoes of a crewmate on board a pirate ship. The crew’s quarters were very cramped and most sailors had to share a small space to sleep in with one or two others! We tried to understand how this would have felt by getting under our tables and imagining we were under the poop deck
Class 2S have also been making various types of ships and treasure chests for their homework project over the half term break. We’ve loved learning about pirates and we are continuing with this as we looked more closely at how a non-fiction text is displayed. We had to make sure the text was in the correct order and the subheadings
Class 2S have been working hard to recall the important events that happened almost 200 years ago in Grace Darling’s brave rescue of 9 shipwreck survivors. This time, we made sure we got our bulbs in and around the borders at the front of school. We planted lots of daffodils and some other more exotic bulbs which we hope will blossom in early Spring next year. Keep your eyes peeled around then!
During Forest Schools, we planted some strong scented herbs into one of our planters. We thought this would be a great area to open the senses to different smells. Run your hands through the leaves next time your pass here and smell the different aromas.
The Year 6s have been help in getting our planters ready for a new year of vegetable growth. We need to move the soil effectively from the bags to the wheelbarrow then to the planters.
In 2S we’ve studied pirate ships and tried to make them using Lego. We made sure our ships had the key features such as a mast, sails, a hull and maybe even a crows nest.
