In year 4 the children have been enjoying learning through active maths. They have been using the skills learned in the classroom and applying them to learning outside, in the hall and in the learning hub.

Last week in maths we were challenged to make a given number in 5 different ways. We used equipment and wrote number sentences.
This morning we were learning to add two (sometimes three) numbers together. This was very much an active lesson and required us to move around to find a partner. We were able to choose which strategy to use, there was lots of practical equipment to help!
Children in Year 5 recently hopped, skipped and jogged their way to solving some tricky mental addition calculations. They all worked very hard, both physically and mentally!
We enjoyed listening to the story ‘Love Monster’ written by Rachel Bright. We decided to make our own love monsters. We cut out the body using scissors and added a face, arms, legs and a heart. We also enjoyed pretending to be little monsters’!
We went into Learning Hub 2 to research facts about rationing during World War 2. Using the white board table allowed the children to present their findings to the rest of the class. We found out some very interesting facts!
As part of learning about how we are the same and how we are different, the children have been comparing their heights and the size of different parts of the body. They have also used cubes for measuring.
