In Year 2, we have been practising using base 10 and calculation mats to help us add across a 10. Using the apparatus helped us with our place value and with our regrouping when crossing over a 10.

Deedee from 1decision has been teaching us how to tie our own shoe laces. We tied string around the table legs using the ‘bunny ears’ technique. How did we do?
We enjoyed our Harvest Festival which was led by the Reverend Jon Taylor from St Bartholomew’s church. He spoke about the importance of being thankful for what we have and how it is kind to share. He also described how his church would be celebrating Harvest this year. As a school we collected enough food to fill over 18 crates
We have been investigating a new adding strategy where we add to the next 10 and then on from there. We used a tens frame and counters first, then tried to represent it on a number line afterwards.
We have been continuing our work on Little Red Reading Hood and went on a woodland walk around the school. We explored different parts of the school to help us come up with adventurous vocabulary using our 5 senses. We then turned those ideas into phrases using alliteration! Some of the alliterative phrases we thought of were; ‘Ripe, red raspberries’,
We walked around school on Monday finding the best places to sit down and read a book. These were our favourites! Our work in English for the next few weeks is based upon a picture book called Little Red Reading Hood who adores reading books and does so wherever she can.
Year 2 were learning about the Gruffalo over the first couple of weeks of term, so we decided to make some Gruffalo toadstool pizzas in Design and Technology. They went down a treat!
Year 2 are creating graphic scores to compose simple pieces of music using untuned percussion instruments. They had to consider which instruments should be playing at a time and how to organise these on the score template. They are looking forward to performing them!
