The children enjoyed learning about St George's Day at the beginning of the week. They learnt all about why and how it is celebrated and enjoyed making their own shields and dragons. They have continued to learn about all things animal related as part of our 'Animal Safari' topic and have been reading and matching descriptions of animals. We have continued to classify animals based on their features- feathers, fur and scales and have begun to explore the terms, 'mammal', 'reptile' and 'bird'. Later in the week, the children learnt about how animals help humans and have investigated which animals lay eggs alongside learning about what animals eat (carnivores, herbivores and omnivores). In maths, the focus has been on counting to 20 and beyond and looking at different strategies to count accurately. In phonics, the focus has been on tricky words, and we have played lots of tricky word games. In provision the children have been writing about last week's trip,; exploring teen numbers using Numicon, cubes and tens frames; decorating birds, creating (and using) dog agility courses and recreating the dinosaur train in the small world. As well as lots and lots more!
