What a great first week back and a super start to the second part of the half term.
This week we launched our ‘Ready Steady Grow’ topic and we started the week exploring where food comes from. The children enjoyed listening to the story of ‘Jack and the beanstalk’ and sequencing and retelling it with their friends. On Wednesday the children learned all about St David’s day and why it is celebrated in Wales, they even learnt to count to 10 in Welsh with Mr Taylor!
Thursday, was of course, World Book day and the year group was filled with every book character you can think of. We also explored the text, ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers and used it as the stimulus for learning that day (and within provision during the week). The week ended with the story, ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen. The focus in maths this week has been ‘comparing’ and in phonics we have been revising the sounds: ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, er, oo and oi, ow and ear.
Provision has been set up to encourage children to begin to think about growing- for example the mud kitchen has become an allotment. The children have been making flowers to sell in their florists and on the creative station children have been designing their own planets and thinking about what they would like on it.
